If you skip too many trainers or events, you may find yourself falling behind a bit. However, there are some tricky opponents, including multi battles with 10-12 opposing pokemon, and double battle opponents with good synergy. There is no level cap or obedience issue. At no point does the difficulty curve expect you you run around and grind out levels. Harder than most mainline games, but not as hard as most fan games. The postgame has a quest that is around 4 hours long that wraps up the story, with lots of other optional features and trainer battles to check out!
